Theory Test
Before you can drive a car in Ireland (under instruction) you must obtain a learner permit also known as a provisional licence and be at least 17 years of age. Before you get this you need to pass a theory test.
Which involves answering a set of 40 multiple choose questions using a touch screen computer, 35 questions need to be correct before you can obtain a Learner Permit.
You can apply for your theory test up to three months before your seventeenth birthday (however, it would not become valid until you are seventeen).
As soon as you pass the theory test, you can apply for a Learner Permit (Provisional driving licence). You cannot book the driving test until 6 months after you have passed the theory test.
